"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. " ~ James 1:2-3

PlayTime (or Smiles!)

In his new ExerSaucer, thanks to the generous people at St. Mark's Catholic Church. We were at mass last Sunday, and I saw him in the nursery, bouncing and spinning and very animated in this saucer. I commented to the nursery lady how happy it made him, and how we would need to get one, when she said, "Oh, we have two that we hardly ever use. Do you want this one?"

Harper says a very hearty "THANKS!"

Harper-Daddy Notre Dame Time

Harper and his Daddy sat down together to watch the Notre Dame / MSU game. We don't normally let Harper watch television, but Tom felt that this was important bonding time for them. Tom was in his Notre Dame jersey, cheering on his team, and explaining the details of scoring to Harper.
Apparently, this was all far too exciting for Harper, as he fell asleep right before Notre Dame made their second touchdown. Alas, maybe next year... or next decade... he'll be more attentive.

My Good Little Traveler

Traveling with Harper added about 3 hours to our trip both ways. But that aside, I was so thankful ~ he was such a chill little guy! He fussed for maybe 45 minutes total, of the whole, there-and-back-40-hours-driving-time, road trip. There were times when Tom sat in back to play with him while he was trapped in his car seat. He babbled lots and played with his toys. Mostly he ate his hands and slept.

Hello, Roger B Chaffee

I couldn't go to Grand Rapids without bringing Harper to those quintessential Grand Rapids locales. Here is Tom, Harper and I at the Gerald R Ford Museum. We tried to take pics of the former President's burial site, but it was gated off for Celebration on the Grand, and it was too dark to get a good picture at that distance. We went to the Calder, GVSU, and a few others. I hope next time we have more time to bring Harper around our hometown.

My Monkey at the Zoo

Well, I look far happier here than he does! We are at the zoo, complimentary tickets came from Erin's sister's roommate. Here, we are in the lizard/snake place. I can't remember the technical term. Harper wasn't terribly interested in the animals you had to look at through glass, but did like the ones who made noises (like the penguins and birds). We even went to the petting zoo, where we didn't pet, but definitely watched as all the animals decided that I was standing in the best place to poo.

Too Cool

Here is my Harper at the flea market on a very sunny  Labor Day in Michigan. He's actually sleeping here, which is a) why we put the glasses on him, so he wouldn't wake up, and b) why he has not ripped the glasses off his face. We were at the flea market for about four hours, and found some great deals on gifts and home cooked Amish goodies.  Harper mostly slept and otherwise chilled, taking in the sights. We had to pass up a perfect green plush recliner for $20. The guy selling it overheard us say we couldn't fit it in the car and piped up, "Where do you live? We could drop it off for you." Yeah, he wasn't willing to bring it down to NC for $20. *Sigh
